An IP65 rated standard hooter is not permitted in a Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous area. IP65 means weatherproof — it does not mean explosion-proof. In a Zone 1 or Zone 2 area, standard electrical equipment is an ignition source. You must use a hooter that carries genuine PESO and CIMFR certification with Ex d (flameproof enclosure) or Ex e (increased safety) designation. Substituting a weatherproof hooter in a hazardous area is a safety violation and an insurance liability.
