The single most common cause of crane bay accidents in Indian factories is insufficient pre-start warning — either no warning at all, or a simple buzzer that workers have habituated to and no longer register. A voice hooter changes this. A spoken message in the worker's own language triggers an immediate response that a tone cannot replicate.
IS 3177 (Code of Practice for EOT Cranes) requires that the audible warning device be audible above the ambient noise level of the work area — not merely present.
