For environments where workers wear hearing PPE, work at a distance, or where ambient noise is so high that sound alone cannot be relied upon. LED strobe, rotating beacon, and tower light units combined with 90–105 dB hooter.
In environments where workers routinely wear hearing PPE (ear defenders, plugs), or where ambient noise exceeds 95 dB, an audio-only hooter is insufficient as the sole warning device. IS 3177 for crane safety and IS 13947 for machine guarding both recognise that combined audio-visual alarms provide significantly better worker response rates than audio-only or visual-only devices in industrial environments.
| Product | Visual Element | Audio Element | Voltage | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strobe Hooter | High-intensity LED strobe, 1–3 Hz flash rate | 90–100 dB electronic hooter | 24V DC / 230V AC | Machine alarms, PLC fault outputs, press safety |
| Rotating Beacon Hooter | Rotating LED or Xenon beacon, 360° visibility | 90–105 dB hooter | 24V DC / 230V AC | Crane bays, outdoor yards, vehicle movement areas |
| Tower Light (Stack Light) | 3–5 colour LED column — green/amber/red/blue/white | 90–100 dB buzzer in base module | 24V DC / 110V AC / 230V AC | Machine status, production line monitoring, DCS status |
| Flameproof Strobe + Hooter | Flameproof LED strobe, Ex d certified | 95–105 dB flameproof hooter | 24V DC / 230V AC | Zone 1 / Zone 2 hazardous areas |
| Colour | Standard Meaning | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| GREEN | Normal / Running / OK | Machine running normally; process within limits |
| AMBER / YELLOW | Warning / Attention required | Consumable near end; maintenance due; process near limit |
| RED | Fault / Stop / Emergency | Machine stopped on fault; process out of limit; emergency stop active |
| BLUE | Operator call / Assistance | Worker pressed call button; quality check needed; changeover required |
| WHITE | Power on / Idle | Machine powered but not running |
If your workers wear ear defenders continuously — pressing shops, grinding areas, stone crushing — specify a combined audio-visual alarm unit with a strobe element rated at minimum 15 candela intensity. Workers who cannot hear the hooter must be able to see the strobe flash in their peripheral vision even while facing away from the unit. Tower lights are insufficient for emergency alerting — use strobe units for emergency, tower lights for status indication.
